On the surface, you’ll see that July was the best month I’ve ever had in my online business, aside from months where I’ve sold websites.

I’m excited about this.  But I also know that looks can be a little bit deceiving.

While this month was a record breaker for both revenue and income, it was also a month when I was paid a large sum from a consulting contract that had been pending.  So, while my overall numbers look great, the websites themselves didn’t do anything out of the ordinary.

As much as I would love to repeat these numbers continuously, I already know that I’ll be taking a dip in August because I won’t have the hefty payment that I did this month.

Outside of that, it was a pretty good month for my business.

The OHP site had some exciting developments this month, and website 6, the one that was previously hammered by a Google algorithm update, has rebounded almost to pre-algorithm numbers.

Now that it’s showing signs of life again, I’m going to make a HUGE investment in the content in an effort to get to 500,000 visits per month.

In addition, I’ve been heavily focused on optimizing my workflow in July to make my life a heck of a lot easier for the future as I scale.

I’ll discuss that more in the report.

This month my total income after expenses was $29,481, which comes out to $951 in profit per day.

If I should mention before we begin, if you’re looking to start your blog, make sure you check out my free IGNITION course today.

Personal Life Update

In July, there wasn’t a whole lot going on out of the ordinary.  I’d say the highlight from a personal standpoint is that my mom finally got to meet her first granddaughter, and needless to say, she enjoyed her time here.

Unfortunately, though, we’re 2 for 2 in having mothers come to our house and get Covid.  That’s right; my mom ALSO got Covid while visiting us.  While she had a tough time with it for one of the weeks that she was here, the good news is that none of us had any symptoms whatsoever.

We are confident that she ended up getting it while in the airport or on the airplane because for the first couple of days we really didn’t do anything and she started to show symptoms.

Thankfully she’s recovered, and luckily this had no impact on us, but it just goes to show that this new disease is here to stay.

In addition to this, I’ve begun to have some health issues myself.  Nothing serious, but my family has a really bad history with high cholesterol and heart issues, and while I’m definitely not on death’s door, there were some concerning things that came back and some blood work that I took.

I don’t think this is anything I can’t handle; I’m just going to have to change up my diet quite a bit.

I’d say my number one problem is sugar, as I have a sweet tooth from hell, but I’ve already been able to curb that quite a bit and have started to clean up things significantly since I had my doctor’s appointment.

But, it isn’t going to end there.  I have quite a few follow-up appointments to make sure that I can get my numbers in check and get my body back to where it will be.  It’s a little frustrating to me because I’m a pretty healthy person in that my diet is probably better than 80% of people, and I’d say I consistently work out 4 to 5 times per week, but it turns out that this is no match for genetics.

So, I’ll be dealing with this over the next couple of months, and although I’m sure I’ll get it under control, it’s annoying that I’ll probably have to have a more strict diet.

That’s all for the personal update.

If this is your first time on my website let me explain a few things about my detailed income reports each month that outlines the money I made (or lost) each month.

I’m doing this for a number of reasons:

1) I strive to be transparent about what it takes to make money online.

2) These reports help me keep track of my own progress.

3) These reports hold me accountable.

Keep in mind, I don’t create these to gloat about my earnings. I create them to help you understand the true “earning curve” of online business.

On a side note, I don’t disclose my actual website URL’s on my reports because I’ve had bad experiences with copycats in the past.

So, in my income reports, you’ll see website generalizations like Website 1, Website 3, Website 5 Website 4, etc.

If you’re looking to create your own blog/online business and want to get started quickly, I suggest you sign up for my FREE course, IGNITION, by clicking here.

Now that we got that out of the way, let’s dive into the report.

Project Updates

Udemy Update

I don’t focus on Udemy any longer, but I have made money from them every month since I stopped.

OHP Website

OHP had a small traffic loss in July into earnings also dropped a bit as well.  I’m not overly concerned, as I’ve been focused primarily on optimizing systems/workflows and haven’t devoted a ton of time to the site as of late.

  • Pageviews decreased MoM by 3% to 58k
  • This month I earned: $11,557. Earnings decreased MoM by 7%.
  • EPM decreased MoM to $199

PLAN:  As of now, I’m putting more of a focus on creating content for the site and less of a focus on desk posting.  To date, my team and I have guest posts on over 350 outlets, and my domain rating has risen to 76, which I never thought I’d be able to get.

While it took an astronomical amount of work to get here, my site now has a lot of authority, and I think it’s time to capitalize on that by focusing more on content.  At present, I’m trying to publish between 3 to 5 articles every single week on the site in an effort to grow my traffic footprint.

Website 3

I have done nothing on this site for at least 12 months except add Ezoic, and it continues to print money for me.  The seasonal traffic spike that I get for the site every year is now over, and while the traffic trend looks troubling, this is very common every year.

  • Pageviews decreased MoM by 27% to 172
  • This month I earned: $5,902. Earnings decreased MoM by 16%.
  • EPM increased MoM to $30

PLAN:  I’m going to keep publishing one blog post per week for the site and let this one run passively with my team.

Website 5

I have done nothing on this site for at least 12 months except add Ezoic, and it continues to print money for me.  I have no intention of working on it and will let it sit as I work on my other projects.

  • Pageviews increased MoM by 5% to 53
  • This month I earned: $950. Earnings decreased MoM by 18%.
  • EPM decreased MoM to $83

PLAN:  This site is currently 100% passive, and I do not work on it.  I’m happy to see traffic increase this month as I had five consecutive months of a downturn previously.  This site will continue to be on the back burner as I work on other projects, and one day I’ll either sell it or try to contribute some review content.  I simply haven’t decided yet.

The saga with site 6 seems to be just beginning.  After looking down the barrel of a Google-created shotgun a few months back as I considered abandoning this project, things have changed wildly in the last two months.

If you recall, a Google algorithm update hit this site very hard, and I thought all was hopeless.  Thankfully, that doesn’t seem to be the case at all.  While the site still isn’t at pre-algorithm levels, it’s trending upward in a big way, and I think there’s still a chance that the site could be a big winner.

And I have some big plans for it….

  • This month I earned: $552. Earnings increased MoM by 69% (I’m sure Elon Musk would appreciate that number, lol)
  • EPM decreased MoM to $11
  • How Much Have I Invested in This Website: $9,836 ($600 Content budget each month)
  • How Much Money Has This Website Made? $9,279
  • Total ROI: -$557 (If I were to sell the website today, I imagine I could get $15,000 for it, which would bring my net gain to roughly $14,500.)
  • How Much Content is on the Website? 273 informational blog posts

PLAN:  While I’m still SLOWLY link building on this site only with relevant outlets, the real focus will be on ramping up content production.

I recently read Anne’s post over at Yeys.com (Shoutout to Jon from FatStacksBlog for letting me know she even exists) where she shared how she produces somewhere in the range of 900 blog posts per month for dozens of sites, and she never focuses on link building.

I found this inspiring.

As we all know, I’m pretty decent at link building and have had a history of building quality links to each of my assets whenever I build them.  But the one thing I’m really lacking is producing boatloads of content at a quick pace.  For the most part, my sites usually have one or two writers, and we produce a comfortable 3 to 5 blog posts per week.

Anne does the exact opposite of this, and it seems to be working, so I decided I’m going to go all in.

My plan from now until the end of the year is as follows:

  • Use Trello to develop a content publishing cadence that automates much of the assigning/communication (DONE)
  • 10,000 words published each week (DONE/ON PACE)
  • 3 writers on staff to help achieve this (DONE)
  • A quality editor to review all of this content efficiently (DONE)
  • A virtual assistant to help my current VA post the content quickly enough (IN PROCESS)

As of now, the only thing missing is a virtual assistant, and I’ll be finding someone from the Philippines to help me out with this.

Overall this will cost in the range of $2000 to $3000 per month from now until the end of the year, but I definitely think this site will grow astronomically given the current landscape of what I see in the market.

You can see that I’m already hitting around 40,000 visits per month, and we truly haven’t even scratched the surface of what this website can do.  I’m hopeful that next month the traffic trend will be much higher than it currently is, and by the end of the year will be able to hit 500,000 visits each month.

Website 7

The good news about website 7 is that after five months of continually decreasing traffic, it finally seems to have stabilized.  While not necessarily thrilled with the current numbers, I’m also curious if there is a bit of seasonality with the site, as things did really well at the end of last year and the year prior.

Frankly, seasonality in this niche doesn’t make sense to me, but I had another site that did something similar, and I also found it a surprise.  I’ll find out by the end of this year if there is a spike in Q4, which is great for display ad revenue.

  • Pageviews maintained MoM at 108k
  • This month I earned: $4,430. Earnings decreased MoM by 5%.
  • EPM decreased MoM to $86
  • How Much Have I Invested in This Website: $50,360 ($1800 Content budget each month)
  • How Much Money Has This Website Made? $99,952
  • Total ROI: $49,592 (If I were to sell the website today, I can assume I’d sell for an estimated $177,000. Which means a net gain of about $226,000)
  • How Much Content is on the Website: Keep in mind that this is an informational type of website, not affiliate related at all.
    • 1901 informational pages on the website
    • 178 Informational Blog Posts

PLAN: For another month, I’m going to continue with business as usual.  One thing that has been problematic is my writer hasn’t been contributing enough of the blog post topics that I’d like, and I had a talk with her about this.  We found a resolution, and she’s going to do her best to consistently produce more informational blog posts along with the informational pages.

No big moves are to be made yet for this site; I’m still going to continue as usual to see if Google starts to show love again.

Website 8

I had a weird and unexpected traffic jump this month, which also significantly boosted my earnings.  This site is a confusing one for me, and it’s one that I think could do really well, but I’m just not pushing hard enough on it at the moment.  In addition, I’ve done almost no link building, which is probably holding it back a little bit.

That said, this website could be massive I have other projects that are showing more momentum and I’m going to continue to focus there and probably jump to this one in the future.

  • Pageviews increased MoM by 11% to 4k.
  • This month I earned: $193. Earnings increased MoM by 25%.
  • EPM increased MoM to $47
  • How Much Have I Invested in This Website: $10,164 (No content production at the moment)
  • How Much Money Has This Website Made? $2,657
  • Total ROI: -$7,507 (If I were to sell the website today, I can assume I’d sell for an estimated $5k. Which means a net loss of about $2,500)
  • How Much Content is on the Website? Keep in mind this website is mostly focused on affiliate content with some informational content.
    • 319 Informational Blog Posts

PLAN:  I’m going to let this site continue to sit until further notice.  One cool thing is that my mom saw the site and said she’d be interested in contributing to it.

That said, I’ve already fired my mom once as a writer (Yes, this happened, but I was kind about it) because she didn’t hit deadlines, and I’m hopeful that this time will be different.  We’re still in discussions to determine if this is a good fit for her, but I think it is pretty cool if she was my writer for the site.

Website 9

  • Pageviews decreased MoM by 14% to 484.
  • This month I earned: $4. Earnings decreased MoM by 67%.
  • EPM decreased MoM to $26
  • How Much Content is on the Website?
    • 25 Informational Blog Posts

PLAN: This site is currently 100% passive and I do not work on it.

Website 10

Another month down, and I haven’t really done anything for this site.  That said, I’ve mentioned in previous income reports how I’ve continually built links here, and I’m happy to report that now it’s in the domain rating 50-ish range.  While this isn’t 70, it’s definitely got some authority now, and my thought is that it might be time to start investing in content.

I think the biggest problem that I had with the site is I didn’t really know the direction that I wanted to go.  I basically threw a bunch of different blog posts up on the site to see what did well, and now that we built quite a few links, I know the direction of where I want to go much better.

So, I think in the coming months, I will be placing a writer to help me with this, and I already have someone in mind.  This person actually interviewed for the website 6 writer opening, but it looks like to be a great fit for the site instead.

That said, the writer doesn’t even know this yet.  I’ve never talked to him, but I saw some of the example content that he sent over, and it fits very nicely into the niche that this website is in.

  • Pageviews decreased MoM by 16% to 1.2
  • This month I earned: $0. This site is not yet monetized.
  • EPM remained at $0.
  • How Much Content is on the Website?
    • 33 Informational Blog Posts

PLAN:  I’m not sure when, but soon I’m going to hire a writer to slowly start creating content here.  It’s not going to be anything like website 6 from an investment/production standpoint, but I definitely think I have a strategy that’s worth exploring.

OneHourProfessor YouTube Channel

The OneHourProfessor YouTube channel did alright this month even though I haven’t touched it in over a year.

  • Views increased MoM by 6% to 2k.
  • This month I earned: $34 Earnings increased MoM by 3%.
  • Subscriber growth increased MoM by 15%
  • How Much Have I Invested in This YouTube Channel: $3,927
  • How Much Money Has This YouTube Channel Made? $15,745
  • Total ROI: $11,818 (If I were to sell the channel today, I can assume I’d sell for an estimated $10k. Which means a net gain of about $21.8k)

PLAN: At this point I must stay away from publishing new content on my channel.  My sites take a ton of my mental capacity and history has shown I’m more skilled in this area.

Themed YouTube Channel 2

This channel continues to perform poorly, and we’re just letting it sit at this point.  There is no reason to focus on it; the earnings and views aren’t close to making this a sustainable or profitable channel.  If you’re interested in building an outsourced YouTube channel like this (I’d advise that you be careful on the niche selection), I recommend that you check out this webinar.

  • Views increased MoM by 12% to 7.4k.
  • This month I earned: $10. Earnings decreased MoM by 18%.
  • Subscriber growth increased MoM by 20%
  • How Much Have We Invested in This YouTube Channel: $4,100 (We’ve stopped investing here)
  • How Much Money Has This YouTube Channel Made? $103
  • Total ROI: -$3,997 (If I were to sell the channel today, I can assume I’d sell for an estimated $400. Which means a net loss of about $3,600)

PLAN:  For now, this channel is simply going to sit.  I’d love to continue to work on it, but the channel itself appears to be flawed.  Even if we’re able to get a significant number of views on the channel, the earnings per thousand views are in the range of $2 to $3, which just isn’t enough.

Lessons Learned

Every month, I will reflect back and tell you a few lessons I’ve learned. My hope is that the lessons each month will be a cautionary tale for you that makes it so that you don’t make the dumb mistakes that I do along the way.

  • Trello is Awesome: I hate to even admit this, but most of my business has been run in the past strictly with Google docs and trusting that writers will drop documents into folders when needed.  While this worked, with the increase in investment for website six and all of its content, I decided I had to do something better.  I forced myself to learn everything there is about Trello, and now I have a bunch of automation pinging my staff every time something needs to happen.  Not only has this cut down on my email, but I like the fact that I can look at the entire content production process from a birds-eye view to make sure we are on track.  Oh, and the best part?  It’s free.  That’s my favorite brand 😊
  • Sometimes Google sucks less than other times: A few months back it was apparent that I was very upset by how Google crushed website 6.  I still insist that I never did anything wrong on that site and though their algorithm made an adjustment, it seemed like there were a whole lot of good sites caught in the crosshairs.  While not thrilled about that, I am happy to see that this website has rebounded quite a bit and now that this happened I have a path to a very big potential site.
  • Online business is a true blessing: The other day I was talking to my wife about how happy I was that I’ve been able to see every single milestone that Saara has had as she’s grown.  In a moment of reflection, I realized how my own father wasn’t able to do this because even though he was an entrepreneur, he was usually on sales calls.  The fact that I’m able to sit at home and walk 30 seconds to see my daughter at any time during the day is a pretty awesome feeling, and I’m very thankful to God and my circumstances for that blessing.
